Kawalerowicz took 3 years to make this film, with his wife playing an architect on the verge of the menopause who sees a possible avenue of escape from a stale marriage. Though well-received initially, it was not widely seen on account of the student unrest that had broken out in 1968, leading to a government crackdown and a slew of sackings in the film industry. This was when Kawalerowicz was fired as head of the Kadr unit.

It’s the typical boy-meets-girl game, but played without rules and at a time when the boy must prove himself. Touching on the subject of teenage sexuality, the film shows that the game often starts with a challenge to the boy’s masculine ego from his peers.
